The New Canterbury-Bankstown Council

On 12 May 2016 the Minister for Local Government, Paul Toole, announced the newly formed “Canterbury-Bankstown” Council. Canterbury-Bankstown Council includes the following wards:

  • Revesby Ward
  • Bass Hill Ward
  • Bankstown Ward
  • Roselands Ward
  • Canterbury Ward

Elections for new councils will take place on 9 September 2017. An Administrator and Interim General Manager have been appointed to oversee the implementation of the new council through to the election.

Administrator Name: Richard Colley

Interim General Manager Name: Matthew Stewart

The Deputy General Manager of the new council is Jim Montague.

City of Canterbury Council before amalgamation

Before the Local Government amalgamations on 12 May 2016, Canterbury City Council was composed of ten Councillors, including the Mayor, elected for a fixed four-year term of office. The Mayor is directly elected while the nine other Councillors are elected proportionally as three separate wards, each electing three Councillors. The most recent election was held on 8 September 2012, and the makeup of the Council was as follows:[1][2][3][4]
